Squeezed lemons
Since I got to the city where I’m (temporarily) staying before I can really kick off my plan to become a ghost, three people have approached me while I was out with my camera. First, a prostitute who thought I was a tourist and screamed at me like a maniac to go with her, yelling I wasn’t man enough if I turned her down. Then, a mentally disabled woman who shouted at me while I was snapping a photo of a cat, convinced I was secretly trying to photograph her kid playing nearby. And just today, a drunk homeless guy who mistook me for a journalist and bellowed at the top of his lungs that this city is “a shithole” (we agree on that) and that I should publish it for the whole world to know. Not bad for just three weeks here.
My original plan for this blog was to start with a short intro and quickly turn it into a photography-only page. Since the goal of this project is to become a wandering ghost, and ghosts don’t have stories to tell, I figured I’d just share whatever interesting things I come across without much commentary.
But, of course, things aren’t going as planned. This city is genuinely ugly, and I’m struggling to find anything worth capturing. Sure, there’s some quirky stuff in the mix of people around, but I have zero desire to interact with anyone. I’ve already accepted that the photography thing isn’t happening for now.
So, like other parts of my plan I’ve mentioned before, it seems the blog’s concept won’t be what I envisioned—at least not yet. I’ve got no choice but to adapt and make the best of it. For now, I’ll keep using it to share what I’m learning on this journey until I can move on to my next destination. All’s not lost, though: the sky here has some nice colors. Too bad about everything underneath it.
